The Opportunity
SRFC is seeking a Director of Strategic Recruiting & Growth Initiatives to play a key role in the firm’s continued expansion, with a primary focus on identifying, evaluating, and recruiting lateral partners, attorney groups, and strategic practice group acquisition opportunities.
Working closely with firm and department leadership, the Director will develop and execute proactive recruiting strategies, build and maintain pipelines of high-value lateral candidates, analyze law firm and attorney market intelligence, coordinate candidate diligence, and help identify opportunities to expand the firm’s capabilities, client base, and practice-area reach.
The position will also support selected business development and marketing initiatives that complement the firm’s recruiting and growth strategy, including competitive intelligence, firm positioning, rankings, public relations, and communications.
This is a hands-on role for a strategic recruiting, business development, or professional services growth professional who is comfortable both developing growth strategies and personally executing high-priority initiatives in a fast-moving law firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Recruiting, Lateral Hiring & Practice Group Growth
- Work directly with leadership to develop and execute strategies for recruiting lateral partners, senior attorneys, attorney teams, and practice groups.
- Proactively identify high-value lateral candidates and strategic practice group acquisition opportunities based on the firm’s growth priorities.
- Build, manage, and continuously develop pipelines of prospective lateral partners and attorney groups.
- Conduct targeted market mapping of attorneys, practice groups, law firms, and relevant markets.
- Develop and execute direct outreach strategies to prospective lateral candidates and other strategic recruiting targets.
- Research and analyze prospective candidates’ practices, experience, client relationships, business generation, market positioning, and potential strategic fit with the firm.
- Coordinate the lateral recruiting process from initial identification and outreach through interviews, diligence, offer discussions, and onboarding.
- Manage and organize due diligence relating to lateral partner candidates, attorney groups, and potential practice group acquisitions.
- Assist leadership in evaluating the financial and strategic implications of potential lateral hires and practice group combinations.
- Maintain market intelligence regarding lateral partner movement, attorney compensation, law firm combinations, practice group expansion, and other competitive developments.
- Develop relationships with attorneys and other industry participants to strengthen the firm’s long-term recruiting network and market visibility.
- Manage relationships with outside legal recruiters and search firms, including coordinating select searches and evaluating recruiter-sourced opportunities.
- Work with leadership to refine recruiting processes, candidate tracking, pipeline management, and lateral integration strategies.
- Support recruiting initiatives for associates and other attorneys and staff when needs arise.
Business Development & Marketing Support
- Support business development initiatives that reinforce the firm’s recruiting and strategic growth objectives.
- Assist with positioning the firm and its practices to prospective lateral candidates, clients, and other strategic audiences.
- Oversee selected firm marketing and communications initiatives, including firm news, transaction announcements, client alerts, website content, practice highlights, and social media.
- Coordinate legal industry rankings, awards, public relations opportunities, and other initiatives that enhance the firm’s market profile.
- Support firm announcements, attorney speaking engagements, sponsorships, conferences, and other visibility initiatives.
- Coordinate with outside marketing, public relations, design, web, and other vendors as necessary.
- Help ensure that the firm’s external messaging and marketing materials effectively communicate its platform, capabilities, growth trajectory, and value proposition to prospective lateral candidates, clients, and other strategic audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 3 years of experience in legal recruiting, law firm business development, strategic growth, executive search, professional services recruiting, or a related field.
- Prior experience working within or closely with the legal industry.
- Demonstrated understanding of the legal industry, including law firm economics, practice areas, partner structures, lateral hiring dynamics, and competitive market trends.
- Ability to identify and assess lateral partner, attorney group, and practice group acquisition opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct market research, competitive intelligence analysis, and candidate sourcing using legal industry and business intelligence resources.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and credibly with partners, senior attorneys, recruiters, and prospective candidates.
- Ability to manage confidential and highly sensitive recruiting, compensation, financial, and strategic information with appropriate discretion.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize candidate, market, and financial information into concise recommendations for leadership.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and work confidently with attorneys and leadership.
- Excellent project management skills, including prioritization, responsiveness, timeliness, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously.
- Proactive and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
